Small COVID demonstration ends in PIN for Tura Beach woman

A COVID-19 silent protest in Merimbula on Saturday, August 28 resulted in a Tura Beach woman being issued with a personal infringement notice (PIN).

The small scale protest consisted of about 10 people who walked along Market St carrying various banners mainly targeting vaccination.

A NSW police spokesperson said that on Friday August 27, officers attached to South Coast Police District were notified of a COVID-19 protest in Merimbula.

"About 10am the following day, Saturday, August 28, police attended Spencer Park, Merimbula, and spoke with the organiser, a 61-year-old man," the police spokesperson said.

"The group consisted of approximately 10 people, most of whom were wearing masks and socially distanced from one another.

"A 44-year-old Tura Beach woman failed to provide police with an exemption for not wearing a face mask; she will be issued with a PIN," the police spokesperson said.

"The crowd dispersed by 11am without incident."
