The guest speaker this month was Elaine Heath who spoke about Legacy and what the organisation provides. They look after widows and widowers of military personnel who have served in war. They also aid their children, up to the age of 21, through assistance with education expenses and for holiday camps.
Ms Heath pointed out that they get no funding from any government source and so have to rely on the money they raise themselves throughout the year.
This was very difficult during the COVID-19 lockdown period as much of their money comes from Sunday bingo held at the RSL Club.
There are only 16 members in this area, looking after over 80 widows and widowers, many of whom are over 90 and represent the last survivors from the World War II era.
This month's meeting at the Merimbula RSL Club starts at 10.15am on Monday, June 21 and the guest speaker is Celia Kennedy who will speak about the Kairos Prison Ministry.
Sadly, at this meeting members were advised of the passing of our long standing member William (Bill) King. He will be sadly missed and all members send condolences to Penny and family.
At this month's outing members visited the new Eden Visitors Centre followed by lunch at the Great Southern Hotel. A very enjoyable day for all.
