It was lunchtime when tourism manager Chris Nicholls noticed some visitors sitting on a bench outside the centre who got up rather quickly and started looking at something under the bench.
It was then that tourism officer Rhonda Beasley spotted it.
"Oh my God there's a snake!" Ms Beasley said.
Only a week ago a snake had been spotted slithering under the door of the empty building next to the MVIC, by a visitor, Mr Nicholls said.
"We asked WIRES if they could come out but they didn't have a snake catcher available," he said.
"I looked in through the window but couldn't see anything."
But on Tuesday he was determined the slithery visitor wouldn't leave without some new accommodation being found.
"With help from the audiologist next door we coralled the snake into a box. I called WIRES but they were not able to help and so we ended up calling local snake catcher Phillip Sproates from Reptile Rescue in Bega," Mr Nicholls said.
The red belly black snake has been taken away to a new location. At about 80cm it might be classed as small but then that begs the question - where is mummy?
