The racing was fast, exciting and the weather was perfect. There were 21 entries and it was great to see the community able to head to the track and support the event now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased.
Seven classes ran, including a Senior 4 Stroke Class.
The results are:
Cadet 9: Ryan DeBorre 1, Oscar Haddon 2. Cadet 12: Aidan Williams 1, Brodie Radford 2, Liam Finney 3. KA4 Junior Light: Annabella Hutchinson 1. KA4 Junior Heavy: Chloe Radford 1, Ryan Johnston 2. KA3 Senior: Blake Motbey 1. 4SS Supermaxx: Travis Hateley 1, Scott Dalton-Kirby 2. Tag 125 Restricted Light: Madelyn Czubara 1, Bailey Cooper 2, Simon Hutchinson 3. Tag 125 Restricted Medium: Tyson Moon 1, Heath Martin 2, Scott Dalton-Kirby 3.
Between the races, upcoming superstars took to the track for practice. The three karters are all six years old and practising to learn not only the track but also the rules of karting before they can race when they turn seven. Well done to Laura Hutchinson, Lachlan DeBorre and Kayley Radford for getting on the track and having fun.
A perpetual award kindly donated by Darcy Cox was introduced this year. The award was for the driver who showed good sportsmanship, a positive attitude and the winner was decided by the founding members John DeBorre, Murray Watts and Pip Barker. The award was given to Ryan Johnston who competed in his first race, took all advice on board with a smile and had a go. Well done Ryan.
The club thanked Eric Johnston for allowing it to utilise the track.
"Over many years your support and involvement has been much appreciated by every past and present member," the club said.
The event over the weekend was also supported by event sponsors Havendeer Bathroom Renovations and Good Year Auto Care Merimbula, while Fox Air Conditioning and Sapphire Coast Eats sponsored a class each.
The weekend could not have run smoothly without volunteers - on the track, off the track, in the canteen, club photographer Andrew Larkin of Kartography, and those who helped in the working bee.
