Stores affected include Millers, Rockmans, Noni B, Rivers, Katies, Autograph, W.Lane, Crossroads, and Beme businesses which are part of Mosaic Brands Ltd.
In a statement to the ASX on March 25 the company said the health and wellbeing of its customers, team, and the broader community was paramount.
All team members affected by the store closures will be stood down with access to leave entitlements while the group reviews government support schemes that may be available to them, the company said.
Mosaic Brands said there had been a significant drop in store traffic and revenue as a response to the COVID-19 outbreak and the government's "social distancing" recommendations.
"These steps are being taken to ensure the group is best placed for the coming months and to provide longer-term job security to its 6800 predominantly female team," Mosaic Brands said.
Online operations will continue though.
