The lantern walk starting at Spencer Park at 5.30pm and heading along Beach Street to Twyford Hall will be followed by a dazzling display of tricks from the Brothers OnFire.
Vera David is the organiser behind the lantern walk and there has been great support for the idea with several schools and pre-schools keen to be part of the walk.
Director at Pambula Village Pre-school Kylie Royle said she expected a large group of children and parents to take part. The children have already made a number of lanterns decorated with coloured leaves or flowers which will be lit by LED lights.
At the Merimbula Tura Kindergarten children were showing off some wonderful lanterns that had been modelled around balloons to give shape before layering different coloured paper.
Ms David she she was overwhelmed by the tremendous support from the community for the lantern walk.
"Staff at the local schools and pre-schools have been busy helping kids make their lanterns. It's a free event geared for the whole community to enjoy, either as a participant or an onlooker. The glow from the lanterns will be quite a spectacle," Ms David promised.
She encouraged everyone to dress in costume, and for any budding musicians to bring their instruments along to accompany walkers.
Its not to late to make your own lantern. Go to www.Facebook.com/MerimbulaLakesideLanternWalk for lantern-making ideas. Look around the house or head to the local op shop for things you can re-purpose as a lantern.
