Anna’s story, ‘Sophie’s egg,’ won the junior fiction category. The judges commented that the story was “original and funny” with “a terrific reveal at the end.”
Anna said she was absolutely thrilled to have won and will receive a manuscript assessment and coaching session as part of her prize.
“It feels like such an honour to have won. Scribbles was a creative heart reviver for me,” Anna said.
Earlier in the year, Anna completed the Scribbles creative writing course, designed by children’s author Jen Storer. In October, participants were invited to enter the inaugural Scribbles Creative Writing Awards, sponsored by HarperCollins Children’s Books.
Jen and fellow authors Lucinda Gifford, Judith Rossell and Gabrielle Wang judged the entries across picture book, junior fiction, middle grade and storyboard categories. In late November, Anna was delighted to discover two of her short stories had been shortlisted.
