The News Weekly managed to catch students as they left their first day of HSC exams yesterday, October 18.
Most were in high spirits, as they poured out smiling knowing their first English exam was out of the way.
Assistant principal of Lumen Christi Catholic College Adrian Wels said the first paper was the “kindest” and today's literature paper will be more challenging.
“The first exam is always stressful, having to go through all of the procedural stuff, they will be better off now having gone through that,” he said.
Eden Marine High had an array of encouragement notes posted on the walls as they entered their first exam in the school hall.
The Magnet visited Eden Marine High to find out how students felt about conquering their first exam.
Students seemed relaxed and confident and relieved that the first exam was out of the way. One student said the creative writing exam was a definite plus to start with.
Teachers and fellow students waited outside the hall with anticipation as students came out feeling pleased that the pressure was after two hours of slogging it out in what some described as a “tense” atmosphere.
One teacher said, “At exam time it’s hard to let go – school staff haven’t seen the exams and the hall is taken over by the examination board and the only support we can give them now is moral support.”
When asked the first thing they would do once the exam period is over varied answers included swimming, partying and one student said jokingly he would throw out all of his books.
