Cr McBain was successful six votes to three over Tony Allen who also nominated for the top role again at the meeting held on Monday, September 17.
In the deputy mayor vote between Cr Nadin and incumbent Liz Seckold the vote was a little closer, 5-4. There was a separate motion on the deputy role, making it only a 12-month term this time around.
Cr McBain thanked councillors for their continued support and looked forward to building on the last two years, “continuing to progress a number of projects and continue advocating for the Bega Valley Shire across the greater region”.
“Liz [Seckold] has done a tremendous job in her role over the two years as deputy and i trust she will continue to be a support for me.
“It’s great Cr Nadin has the opportunity to do this job and gain some experience ion council leadership.
“I look forward to what we can do as a team.”
Cr Nadin said “it was the right time” for him to take on a leadership role and to “empower councillors”.
“I think I have some good ideas and can work well with the mayor to disseminate the messages from council to the community.
“I want to work more closely with all media in the region to make sure the message is getting out.
“Kristy is extremely busy as mayor so it can be up to the deputy to make the regular contact with councillors – about the business papers, about strategy, to work as a team toward the same goal.”
In the breakdown of votes for the mayor’s role, Cr Allen also received votes from Russell Fitzpatrick and Robyn Bain, while Cr Seckold, Sharon Tapscott, Jo Dodds and Cr Nadin voted with Cr McBain.
In the deputy vote, Cr Nadin’s tilt for the role was supported by Crs Fitzpatrick, Bain, Allen and McBain, while Cr Seckold received votes from Crs Griff, Tapscott and Dodds.
