Ms Voltz visited the Merimbula basketball and netball courts at the invitation of state Labor candidate Leanne Atkinson where they met Merimbula Basketball Club president Cliff Scarlett and a host of individual representatives from other user groups including PCYC, the Sailboard Club, Merimbula Boardriders, Pambula Surf Life Saving Club and several fitness organisations.
The clubs have plans for the much-used courts and want to see new surfaces with a roof so that they can be used in all weathers. Currently games have to be called off if the weather is damp as the courts become too dangerous and slippery. The surface is also moving in various spots. There are over 600 kids who use the courts.
Mr Scarlett said the condition of the courts was an issue that was widely felt in the community. “When it comes to voting time this will be a local issue,” he said.
