What you notice when talking to Bega Valley’s volunteers is they do not do the work for themselves, they do it for others.

This was clearly evident in Bega on Wednesday when the recipients of the 2018 Bega Valley Shire Community Service Medallions were announced.
Member of the Tathra Rural Fire Brigade Lance Hartley said he was overwhelmed to receive a medallion, but it was not just for him.
“Nothing I do or any other volunteer does gets done without the support of their partner,” Mr Hartley said.
“So my award goes as much to her as it does to me.
“I could not be out there without her supporting me.”
Long-time volunteer with the Bemboka Fire Brigade and Bemboka Hall Stuart Alcock said what he loved most about small communities was the way everyone pulled together whenever there was an issue.
“When I had an illness they turned around and were mowing lawns, driving me to doctors and putting on a fundraiser for medical bills. I’ve received far more than I’ve given,” he said.
Kristina Walker spoke on how much it meant to her to volunteer with Tulgeen Disability Services and help set up production of Stitches and Prints produce bags.
“Without the girls there I would not be able to enjoy my life. They mean so much to me,” she said.
The other medallion recipients were Glenn Cotter, Geoffrey Dove, Brigitte Kestermann, Marianne Kramp, Wendy Ramage, Ned Roberts, Arthur Robinson, Lynn Slater and Sandra Symonds.
The medallion is presented for the outstanding work of volunteers.
