The Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones trained horse won the $40,000 race, taking home a cool $21,970 for the victory.
The Richard Clarke trained Akiko Gold took second place in the race, and John Marzol’s Bill ‘n’ Eve finished third.
Almost Court started the race as the favourite, and never looked threatened in a dominant display, winning by more than two lengths.
The New Zealand born horse won for the fourth time in five starts, and brought Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones their first Narooma Cup victory.
Club manager Brian Cowden praised those who attended the event.
“The crowd was as expected, a bit down on the previous year due to the later date,” he said. “The crowd was really well behaved, no incidents at all.
“The racing went really well, there was some good quality winners on the day, and a number of horses will go on and win a number of other races.”
The victory continued a strong South Coast history of winning the Narooma Cup.
“It was great to see Barbara’s horse win the cup,” Mr Cowden said. “He won quite easily up against a good-standard field.”
While Mr Cowden is happy with the way the racing ended, their was a period of panic before the Narooma Cup due to a 13 minute delay.
“A member of the crowd developed an allergy to something on the day, so he was treated by the on-course ambulance,” Mr Cowden said.
“They elected to call another ambulance in case he deteriorated, so there was a slight delay.
“The young fella is fine, but he did have pre-existing allergy issues.”
The next major meet on the calendar is the Moruya Cup on Monday, January 22.
“I’m expecting a number of the winners, and place-getters to race again in two weeks time,” Mr Cowden said.
