The Far South Coast Maternity Advisory Group in conjunction with Bega Valley Maternal Services is hosting an event for RUOK? Day on Thursday, September 14, from 10am, at the Frank Maher Pavilion, Pambula Sportsground.
Dr Jacqui Brown will be speaking, as well as specialist midwives, about perinatal depression, emotional changes, behaviour and social changes and how to access support if necessary.
It will also be an opportunity for local mothers and carers to connect with others in a social and child friendly environment, so that, in the spirit of RUOK? Day, we can assist to start a conversation that may save a life.

An Encaustic Workshop and Show and Tell session will be the highlights of the next Merimbula Arts Group meeting. This is being held on Saturday, September 9, starting at 2pm at the Merimbula RSL. Members and guests are welcome.
The annual Arts Exhibition and Sale of paintings and craft will be held at Twyford Hall, Merimbula from Saturday, September 22 until Sunday, October 1. Opening hours are 10am to 4pm. All works are by local artists of the Bega Valley and presented at most reasonable prices.
At the Merimbula Day VIEW Club’s next lunch meeting on Friday, September 8, there will be a “Make it Bake it Sew it Grow it” table and members are asked to contribute item to be sold on that table.

On Friday, October 20, the club will be presenting a Spring Fashion Show of clothing from Black Pepper, Noni B and Rockmans Be Me of Merimbula. The cost will be $20 which includes a light lunch and the time for the show will be 11.30am for 12 noon at Merimbula RSL Club. VIEW Clubs support the work of The Smith Family helping young Australians in need to achieve their potential through education.
Red Cross needs you
Become a Red Cross volunteer and support your community. At the time of a disaster, and long after, Red Cross is there supporting the community.
Our volunteers may be called upon to meet people at an evacuation centre, assist in a recovery centre or visit people after an emergency providing them with information and linking them with services. They can also talk to community members about how to be better prepared for disasters.

Atlas of Life photo comp
Inviting everyone who has taken an interesting photo of something in nature. A frog or a fungi, a whale or a beetle or an orchid - we are looking for images of every kind of living thing.
Submit your entries on the atlasoflife.org.au website - 14 categories to choose from including two new junior categories and the best of NatureMapr - images contributed to our Atlas of Life database. Closing date September 23.
This year’s competition is a partnership between the Atlas of Life, Merimbula EyeQ and the Lonely Arts Club Pambula. Thanks to our sponsors we have a first prize of two nights’ accommodation in a luxurious safari tent at Tanja Lagoon Camp, a $150 voucher for a splendid meal at Wheeler’s Restaurant and there will also be a cash prize of $100 for the runner-up. All winning entries will be announced and exhibited at our partner EyeQ Optometrists Merimbula at a celebration evening on October 14.
This is the fifth year of our competition and the quality of entries to date has been amazing and fascinating to see and share. A panel of expert judges will decide on winners in each category and the overall winner.

From Little Things Parklands
On Saturday, September 16, from dawn to dark, Atlas of Life and From Little Things Parklands will be joining forces to co-ordinate a family focused BioBlitz of the Merimbula Creek area.
Teams will set off from base camp at the Merimbula Scout Hall, to survey the flora and wildlife of the area. There will be guided surveys ranging from flora walks to reptile hunts and many other specialist activities. Everyone is welcome to come and join in on this fun and educational day.

Free legal advice
Shoalcoast Community Legal Centre provides free phone legal advice for Bega Valley and Cooma-Monaro residents as well as face-to-face clinics in the shires.
South East NSW Women’s Legal Service provides the assistance through the Shoalcoast Community Legal Centre; a community managed free legal service. The program is available to women in the Bega Valley and Cooma Monaro shires and offers advice in most non-commercial areas of law.
Additionally to outreach service there are legal Skype appointments available to encourage more women to access the service from your home or community service.
Skype appointments are available on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Over the phone services are available every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 12 noon.

Spiral Gallery features a joint exhibition by two artists working in two different art forms: Julie Love - Mixed media sculpture and painting; and Deborah Metz - Works on paper. Julie was at one time a resident in Bega and is pleased to be returning to Bega for the exhibition. She will be exhibiting a body of work titled ‘pod’, consisting of riveted recycled metal sculptures and pigment paintings. Deborah made many visits to Tathra from the mid ’80’s staying with a close family friend on a regular basis.
She has since the 1970’s, been a printmaker. The majority of her work in the Spiral show will be editioned multi coloured lithographs drawn directly on to her polished limestones which, she hand printed on a direct Lithographic Press, printing on hand made European archival papers. The large prints all reference aspects of the sea environment and life within it.
