The Panthers pipped the northern club by a single point as they battled out a 10-13-73 to 11-6-72 result at home on Saturday.
Six rounds in to the Sapphire Coast AFL competition, it is the first loss for the Lions, but has also rocketed the Panthers to the top of the ladder, edging the Narooma club on for and against.
The Panthers startled the visitors when they fired to an early lead and held onto it throughout the game.
It was the Lions forced to fight their way back into the contest and falling short by just a behind at the final siren.
Pambula forward Jake Taylor led the way with an inspired effort, kicking five goals for the club, while Steven Butterworth was hot on his heels, kicking three majors for the hosts.
A single goal was claimed by both Aaron Proctor and Sean Smith in the Panthers’ win.
Simon Mackie led the charge for the Lions, bagging five goals himself with Hayden Lang also slotting three through the big posts.
The Lions were closing in on the Panthers after trailing by 16 points at the three-quarter break.
However, the Panthers rallied their efforts to hold them out with a pair of goals and a few behinds to keep the single point buffer.
Meanwhile, the Merimbula Diggers piled on a 100-point win over the Eden Whalers, downing the Eden club 22-10-142 to 5-9-39.
It is the first win of the season for the Diggers, who have struggled to find the same form they boasted as grand finalists last year.
However, the impressive result over Eden offers a morale boost for the club heading into round seven this weekend.
It was a big-scoring game from the outset as the Diggers piled on four goals in the opening quarter to Eden’s two to hold a solid early lead.
But it was the second quarter where Merimbula really shone, piling on five goals to one and extending their lead to 40 points by the main break.
The final quarter also saw a big effort from the Diggers as they slotted nine goals in an accurate showing to comfortably seal the result.
There were no true standouts from the Diggers, but the team welcomed a strong all-round effort with a number of goal kickers stepping up.
Billy Stubbs and Scott Richmond both bagged three majors.
Meanwhile, Will Regan, Jack Birch, Ash Postance and Daniel Murphy each kicked two in the win. This Saturday the Diggers host Bermagui at Berrambool Oval and Pambula hosts Eden at the Sporting Complex.
