Local residents have pushed for a full service post office at Tura claiming the growing suburb which is served by seven school buses daily is deserving of better service.
Resident Jon Gaul has been pushing for a full service post office for Tura for a couple of years.
“We have no full service post office at the Newsagency, it’s the same as at Kiah and Kalaru and yet we have the fastest growing population in the shire,” he said.
“The Headland Drive and Pacific Way post box rusted out from sea air and was closed and taped off on February 21, 2017 but Australia Post now says it will be closed forever, due to ‘too little traffic’ but there is no explanation of what constitutes too little traffic,” Mr Gaul said adding the nearest box post was 2km away at the old Tura shops.
“Ironically, the motorbike posties store their mail in the green metal box, right beside the condemned red postbox, so there would be no extra cost for them to continue clear the postbox, if it is not closed down,” he added.
In the meantime there is a petition with 3500 signatures at the Newsagency calling for Australia Post to provide a full service post office at Tura.
