The Down South Jazz Club will start its year off in fine style with an outstanding Canberra band, The Dan McLean Hot Four, this Thursday at Club Sapphire.

This all male quartet features Dan Mclean on trumpet/flugal horn, James Luke on double bass, Damien Slingsby on keyboard/vocals and Kay Chinnery on drums.
Band leader, arranger, composer, educator and trumpet player, Dan McLean is a versatile and experienced performer, with professional training in both jazz and classical trumpet. Since graduating from the ANU he has performed both nationally and internationally in a wide range of music styles including jazz, pop, rock, blues, contemporary, classical and musical theatre.
James Luke on double bass also played for the jazz club with Angela Lount and the Funky Fedoras and The Hetty Kate and Dan McLean Swinget. James plays all kinds of music and has played at many festivals from jazz to blues and country.
On keybord and vocals, Damien Slingsby is a graduate of the ANU Music school and is a professional pianist, vocalist and accompanist. Some highlights of past few years include performing at the 2011 Glastonbury Music Festival and other festivals and venues in Europe, Ethiopia and the UK.
Kay Chinnery is one of Canberra’s most sought after and versatile drummers. Always exciting to listen to, he is a fantastic drummer to see live and will complement the band very well.
