Prospective councillors are invited to an information session this Wednesday, July 27.
Being a councillor provides an opportunity to represent your community by making relevant decisions affecting the Bega Valley Shire.
If you are considering becoming a councillor and want to nominate to be a candidate in the upcoming local government election, the information session, to be held from 6pm at the Bega Commemorative Civic Centre, is for you.
Those who attend will be given an insight into the roles and responsibilities of being an elected member of Council.
Guest speakers Stan Kondilios and Sue Haslingden will share their experiences as current and former councillors with local government areas within NSW.
Information will also be provided concerning the process for nominating to become a councillor.
As a candidate, those who nominate have certain obligations and responsibilities under law. Particular details of these requirements are available by visiting the NSW Electoral Commission website, www.votensw.info
Candidate nominations open Monday, August 1, and close at noon, Wednesday, August 10.
