Merimbula icon Wayne “Squizzy” Taylor teamed with local bowls legend Warren Love to claim Merimbula men’s club pairs crown last Saturday.
Taylor and Love advanced to the final after a high standard victory over Dylan Cuthbert and Michael Wilks,
In the other semi final another former winner in Bill Holloway and Boris Schneider also had a tough contest as they just managed to outlast up and coming talents Scott Pettit and Brent Daly.
The final was held last Saturday in blustery conditions, but from the outset Taylor and Love took the initiative, securing a slender lead. Holloway and Schneider chipped away at the pair to trail by just two shots with only a few ends to play.
However, with the match slipping away, Taylor stepped up with a pin-point running shot to set up his skipper for a four-count. The victory is the second straight win for Love who has now won a staggering 45 plus club championship titles.
All focus will now switch to the upcoming state pennant finals in late July with two Merimbula teams in the hunt.
