Harry is a comic performer, poet and children’s author. With a newly published collection of poems for children called Shoctopus, he has also written and performed eight solo shows, and two of his series of country tales have been broadcast on ABC’s Radio National. He teaches creative writing in schools and with community groups.
The workshop is intended to help writers explore their comic potential in whatever form of writing they prefer. This might include narratives, poems, monologues or even songs.
Harry will encourage participants to mine their life experiences for sources of comedy. There will be the opportunity to try different forms of comic writing so that participants can discover what form works best with their material. He will also offer some performing and voice work tips if required. This is a workshop for writers across all genres and stages of writing.
Writing Comedy will run from 10am to 4pm. The cost to members is $40 and to non-members is $50. This opportunity is made possible by support from the Mumbulla Foundation, ACT Writers Centre and South Coast Writers Centre.
The regular WFSC manuscript clinic will not be held in October, but will be replaced by a special double manuscript clinic in November. To find out more about the WFSC, check out our website (www.writersfsc.org.au) or find us on Facebook.
