As a result, part of Kiama Place has been restricted to one lane. Traffic hazard signs, witches hats and bunting are in place notifying motorists of the need to drive carefully.
Residents of Kiama Place said they first noticed a depression in the road on Saturday morning but it wasn't until Monday, August 3 that the hole appeared.
The hole in the tarmac appears to be only around half a metre in diameter but the sink hole extends underneath the tarmac and could be as big as two metres by two metres wide as well as up to two metres deep.
A council worker was at the scene on Monday afternoon investigating the cause.
Council will begin work on Tuesday, August 4, to repair the sink hole.
