As other telcos focus more on the NBN, taxpayer monies, off-shoring jobs and keeping their shareholders happy, a local company is “getting it done” and breaking new ground when it comes to getting high speed broadband into under-serviced areas.

It’s taken Splash Internet (a wireless Internet service provider) six years to build a network that mirrors the standards and speeds of a typical European country.
This Pambula based company is not waiting for the government to roll out its favoured high speed broadband, as its network already has the capacity to beat the proposed new NBN speeds, according to Lisa Dykes, Splash Internet customer relations.
Paul McCooey, the sole founder and company director, is leading the way in the network and its developments. Paul has been the driving force behind Splash Internet's success with his technical and entrepreneurial business skills. Being young with limited finances but huge energy, the Splash Internet crew is always on the lookout for ways they can save money, and pass that on to their customers.
With the development of a new station at Bald Hills recently completed the company is now offering high speed wireless Internet to Bald Hills, South Pambula and Pambula residents.
“We are hoping to expand to other remote areas, which up until now had few or no options when it came to high speed, reliable Internet,” Ms Dykes said. A phone line is not needed for the service, she said.
Local artist Hilary Peterson, of Bald Hills, is a happy Splash Internet customer.
“It has made a huge difference to our lives,” Ms Peterson said, “it is faster than satellite.”
“We can now look at the Internet something we couldn’t do before and I have two email accounts. “It is definitely a vast improvement.”
She said that in comparison the satellite system was “intermittent and slow.”
Her computer had been struggling to download upgrades for months but with Splash Internet 87 were completed in a short time.
“I am really pleased and couldn’t be happier. In addition to that it is wonderful to see a young couple striking out and making a success.”
Ms Peterson said there was a groundswell of interest in the new service amongst her Bald Hills neighbours.
