Last week saw the arrival of new kindergarten students at Merimbula Public School, and on Monday, Pambula Public School.
At Merimbula, principal, Michelle Hulme said that kindergarten numbers were similar to last year at 50. Mrs Hulme said: “We have a saying here that 20 is plenty but we had more in the first couple of days than we had anticipated and so may need to form a third class.”
She said that the school had 11 enrolments across all years on the staff development day and the school now has a total of 16 classes across all age groups.
Mrs Hulme said that the school had already been warned by pre-school groups in the area to expect bigger than usual numbers for their intake next year.
Pambula Public School
At Pambula Public School too numbers were similar to last year with 48 kindergarten students enrolled this year.
Assistant principal and kindergarten teacher, Melissa O'Meara said: “We have a happy and enthusiastic group of children who were all very eager to start the new school year. Every child has a very helpful year 6 buddy to aid their transition and settle into school life. There were lots of smiles from the students and positive feedback from parents in regards to this year's smooth starting process at Pambula Public School.”
