THE OFFENDER
* Joel Cauchi, 40, moved to Sydney from Queensland in March
* Known to NSW and Queensland authorities for mental health-related issues
* Diagnosed with mental illness at 17, with treatment over the years
* In contact with police primarily over the past four-to-five years due to mental health
* Never arrested for any criminal offence in Queensland
* Last police interaction on the Gold Coast in December, where he was street-checked
* Drew a knife from his backpack during incident and authorities are investigating where it came from
* Shot dead by a police officer
* No evidence to suggest the attack was driven by any motivation or ideology
* He moved around Queensland frequently over the last few years from Brisbane to Kangaroo Point to Carina and back to his parent's home before travelling to Sydney
* Believed to have been sleeping in a car and backpack hotels
* A storage facility linked to Cauchi hasn't shed any light on his motive
* Cauchi's family reached out to authorities after seeing his image on TV and is helping police
THE VICTIMS
* Six people were killed, five women aged between 20 and 55 and a 30-year-old man
* 17 victims stabbed, about 12 remain in hospital with conditions ranging from critical to serious but stable, with eight of those women
* 38-year-old osteopath Ashlee Good was fatally stabbed while her nine-month-old baby girl underwent surgery overnight and is in critical condition in intensive care
* E-commerce assistant Dawn Singleton, 25-year-old daughter of multi-millionaire businessman John Singleton, was among those killed
* Architect Jade Young, a 47-year-old who worked nearby in Double Bay, also lost her life
* 30-year-old Pakistani refugee Faraz Tahir arrived in Australia about a year ago and was working as a security guard when he was stabbed to death
* 55-year-old Pikria Darchia was the fifth victim identified, with police distributing four photos on behalf of her family
* Two of those killed were from overseas and had no family in Australia
* A male Pakistani citizen is among those injured and remains in a stable condition in hospital
WHAT HAPPENED
* The killings took place inside the Westfield shopping centre at Bondi Junction just after 3pm on Saturday
* Cauchi confronted people in the centre, stabbing them with a large knife
* He acted alone and there is no ongoing threat to the community
* Senior police officer Amy Scott shot Cauchi after he refused to drop his weapon
* About 75 paramedics and doctors attended, including intensive care paramedics, special operations team and special casualty access team
* The shopping centre remains closed as an active crime scene
