An independent production will bring Dan Goggin's hilarious script and score to the local stage. Producers Elaine and Bruce Waddell have localised the play and say there are lots of laughs and a wonderful variety of songs and musical styles in the award winning show.
'Nunsense' is a hilarious spoof about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraising event for rather dubious reasons.
In the case of this production, it's a fundraiser within a fundraiser, as profits from all performances will go to local charity Sapphire Life Opportunities.
Director Elaine has gathered a strong cast, with Tracey Hughes-Butters as the unpredictable Reverend Mother, Eileen Reckord as her long suffering 2IC Sister Hubert, Bev Edwards as the vaporous Sister Amnesia, Maryanne Spinks as the streetwise Sister Robert Anne and Charlotte Lipsham as the novice Sister Leo.
Rocking the music are the combo of Cindy Dibley (Sister Melodia), John Fraser (Father John) and Joe Fragnito (Father Fender) on piano, drums and bass guitar. Stage Manager is Jill Goodchild (Sister Helpus).
Nunsense (1985) originated as a line of greeting cards, which Goggin expanded into a cabaret show that ran for 38 weeks, and eventually into a full-length musical.
The original Off-Broadway production opened December 12, 1985, running for 3672 performances and becoming the second-longest-running Off-Broadway show in history. The show has since been adapted for television and has spawned six sequels and three spin-offs.
Nunsense will be onstage at Wolumla Hall for six performances (evenings and matinees) from February 4 - 13 and bookings are now open. Tickets are $35 and $25 (conc) and are now available through Trybooking https://www.trybooking.com/BVTQD
