Eden police Sergeant Scott Blanch said the burning vehicle was linked to a police matter conducted earlier on Friday afternoon.
At 2pm Friday, August 30, police pulled over a station wagon with allegedly false number plates.
The 45-year-old male driver allegedly tested positive to methamphetamine. Sergeant Blanch said a quantity of drugs along with prohibited weapons were also seized.
The driver was taken to Eden Police Station, where a second oral fluid test was conducted, and was later released from custody.
He is set to appear in Eden Local Court on charges of driving with an illicit substance, possessing prohibited weapons, possession of prohibited drugs, driving with a suspended licence and driving with plates calculated to deceive.
At 2am Saturday morning emergency services were called to the scene of the same vehicle on fire on the Princes Highway. Eden Fire and Rescue extinguished the blaze.
Sergeant Blanch said investigations are continuing.
