Dane is well known for his incredible run from Perth to Pambula where he raised money for mental health but this time he will be taking a slower pace to take part in the 7 Bridges Walk of 28km around Sydney Harbour on Sunday, October 27, in aid of the Cancer Council.
Dane's mum Junee Waites said his dad Rod, died nine years from cancer.
"We've just lost a good friend, Tim Fischer, to cancer. Tim and Judy Fischer wrote the forward to Smiling at Shadows (Junee's book about bringing up an autistic child) and launched the book back in 2001.
"Our paths have crossed ever since through our involvement in the world of autism. In 2017 we spent some quality time with them for which we were both grateful," Junne said.
Dane said that being autistic he is interested in numbers.
"It makes me sad to know that every year in Australia 145,000 people are told they have cancer.
"I miss my dad. In 2017 I ran 4400kms across Australia in his memory, now I am excited to walk the 7 Bridges in his memory," Dane said.
Dane has set his sights on raising $7000 for the Cancer Council, $1000 for each bridge on the walk.
Anyone wishing to donate to Dane's walk can go directly his Cancer Council page .
Alternatively there are donation tins at Merimbula Health and Fitness and the Pambula Deli.
