Current Governor David Hurley was on Sunday appointed the nation's next governor-general, succeeding Sir Peter Cosgrove in June.
Ms Berejiklian is expected to appoint a new governor before the government enters caretaker mode on March 1.
"I'm very excited about the prospect of appointing the new governor and that will happen soon," she told reporters on Sunday.
But Opposition Leader Michael Daley warned that with the March 23 NSW election so close, Labor wouldn't feel bound by a pre-election announcement.
Sir Peter was to retire in March but, at the request of Mr Hurley, agreed to stay on until June to ensure NSW has an experienced governor for its state election.
