The Tathra MTB Club held its final winter warmer race on the weekend following the last clean-up session of about 50km of single track. 

HSC student Sebastian Weber hit on the right formula Saturday to claim victory.

In a three way battle, Weber beat perennial Sam Parker (Bega) and Charlie Todd (Tanja) in the open male category.

In the women’s event two imports, Vanessa Knee from Jindabyne and Carrie Hamm  (Colorado) took the top placings, with Tathra’s Stacey Defina third.

The group will be among those contesting the Enduro, but officials said you need to fast for discount entry. 

Event organisers say mountain bike riders can save $30 by entering before the June 3 deadline, and encourages them to do so.

“It’s hard to plan and run a great event, if you don’t know how many people are coming,” says Enduro’s Stacey George.

She says the Tathra MTB Enduro is a major fund raiser for the Tathra MTB Club, which uses the proceeds to maintain the 50kms of single track in the area. Other funds go to local community organisations, who assist in the running of the event.

Over 400 riders traditionally enter the June long weekend event, however organisers are unsure of numbers this year, following the March bushfires.

“We have had a very positive response from people wanting to come to Tathra to race and support the event and town,” said Ms George.

“But we are a bit in the dark, as to final numbers, because everyone traditionally leaves entering to the last minute.”

She says early bird entry encourages people to commit and plan a great weekend with family and friends, or if they are local, to get out and enjoy racing in their own backyard.

Despite the March fires Tathra’s single track has never been in better condition – with volunteers putting in three months of solid work to bring the tracks back to race condition.

 “The trails are fast, smooth and flowing, and there’s plenty of new berms and other fun track elements. The only thing missing on the Bundadung are the trees,” says Ms George.

“But then the fire only affected half of the Enduro tracks, so there’s plenty of green forest racing over at the Fire Shed.”

This year’s Enduro features five events, with the Bega Cheese Childrens’ Chase, and Lap It Up races taking place on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s Tuff 25km, Mitas 50km and King Nelba 75km.

There are plenty of great homegrown category prizes, and random prizes for riders who enter.

Early bird entries close midnight, June 3.  However online entries don’t close until Friday, June 8.  Riders can also enter in person on Saturday.
