Chelsea Smith, 12, had her mind set on volunteering in Merimbula, searching for the right place to take her on board. 

Tourism coordinator Ginny Francis said they were quick to recruit Chelsea who is already helping with a variety of office duties and customer service in her first month on the job. 

Chelsea helps out on Friday afternoons and said she “loves working with people.”

As Chelsea takes her first steps into work experience, Graeme Mills, 78 is finishing his. 

Mr Mills is a retired Linotype operator and compositor for the Herald Sun and foremost before retirement he had the ice creamery in town for 20-years.

“I know the area well, and I love explaining it to tourists who come in,” Mr Mills said. 

In the spirit of volunteers week last week, the Merimbula Visitor Information Centre treated their staff of volunteers to an evening at the Beach Cabins Merimbula for some drinks and nibbles. 

Ms Francis said the Visitor Information Centre are always looking for volunteers across all ages.

“Majority of the volunteers are retired and 60 plus but it is definitely great having some youth in here,” she said.
