May God bless the lady customer in the Salvos store on Friday, May 4 who gave me and my family of five kids $50 out of the kindness of her heart.

Her name has escaped me because I was overwhelmed with emotion that someone cared so much. You know who you are and I sincerely hope you read this.
I’m a single mum with five kids and homeless at the moment. We went into the Salvos to see if they had any food parcels to tide us over for a few days.
We have never been in this situation before, but were evicted for the fourth and final time due to my mum's gambling addiction and given two weeks to vacate.
After that a series of other problems led us to emergency accommodation.
Thank God for people like this. You have made my year beautiful lady. You've made the coming winter warmer. You are in our hearts always. Thank you so much.

Aladdin outstanding
Spectrum Theatre Group has done it again - this time with 36 young people from the Merimbula area performing a most wonderful version of Disney's Aladdin Junior.
This show is not just for kids and their parents, or a local school production. It is much, much more. Amber Little the director/choreographer, has managed the huge task of pulling together a cast of 36 young people aged from eight to 18, to present an outstanding production.
It's vibrant, funny and clever, with some of the best costumes ever seen on the stage of Twyford Hall. Well done everyone involved!

False promises
The Merimbula Woolworths supermarket development in Main Street is being built on the back of false promises.
At BVSC’s ordinary meeting held on May 1, councillors were asked to approve an amendment to the development consent relating to the Woolworths supermarket development, such that the 127 car spaces required as a condition of title and to be supplied within 12 months from the date of commencement of construction, be amended such that the timeline would be extended from 12 months to 22 months, meaning that the parking would not become available until November 2018.
The application for the amendment was submitted to BVSC on February 5 and no explanation was given as to why it was not brought to the elected council’s attention for more than three months.
More significantly, given that the car parking was to be provided within 12 months of the commencement of construction and given that BVSC claims that construction commenced in February 2017, then this latest application to amend the development consent was not made until the condition requiring the provision of the parking had actually been breached – and continues to be breached nearly four months later.
Moreover, council quickly realised that the access road to the development was nowhere near completion, meaning that access to the car parking might be impossible anyway, even if it was otherwise ready to use.
So, how could BVSC get caught out so badly? How could council find itself in a position where the community has been led to believe that the parking would be available from February this year, when suddenly it’s not going to be available until November, some nine months later?
The BVSRRA believes that the answer to this question is simply that council has not been fully informed of decisions that appear to have been taken by council officials to assist the developer.

Thanks to volunteers
This week (National Volunteer Week) we’re saying a huge thank you to the people who make our country a happier place. Volunteering happens in all kinds of ways and can have a profound effect on the lives of individuals.
At Australian Red Cross, volunteers are a lot like our engine room; they support communities when natural disasters hit, make daily phone calls to isolated people, greet customers to our op shops, donate blood, and fundraise for us. This week we’re celebrating not just our volunteers in NSW, but everyone who takes action to make our society stronger, more connected and supportive.
Thank you for your generosity and making NSW and Australia a better place. Find out more about volunteering at redcross.org.au.
