A flash mob of around 30 young singers and dancers provided a big spectacle outside the Woolworths Supermarket during the busy morning shopping period, performing a couple of numbers from Disney’s Aladdin Jr as well as handing out show flyers.
Aladdin Jr will be Spectrum’s first all-youth production, hitting the stage at Twyford Hall Merimbula for 10 performances from May 18.
A lot of the children have performed in previous Spectrum Theatre productions and have now come back as members of Splat– Spectrum Little Actors Theatre.
Splat is all set to perform “a magical and colourful” ensemble production of Disney’s Aladdin Jr, directed by Amber Little, with John Fraser as musical director and Donna Cotter as assistant director.
Ben Pettit is playing the lead role of Aladdin, with many other young faces well known to local theatre-goers also in the cast.
The role of Princess Jasmine will be played by Paris Sitchon, the Genie by Matthew Gibbs and Jafar by Luca Yi.
Rounding out the key characters are Aria Little as Iago the parrot), Jayden Rafferty as Sultan Hamed, Lachlan Fraser as Razoul, and Sarah McCamish as the Magic Carpet.
Both Ben and Matthew led Saturday’s flash mob, performing samples of One Jump Ahead, Friend Like Me and the iconic A Whole New World, before the group dispersed en masse throughout the shopping centre.
Ms Little said the cast and crew are all in full rehearsal mode and very excited ahead of their performances.
She said the flash mob was a great way to start ramping up promotion of the production and showing off its youthful cast.
Aladdin Jr will be performed at Twyford Hall each weekend from May 18 until June 3 with theatre-style seating.
There is a variety of evening and matinee shows, with tickets now on sale at www.spectrumtheatregroup.com.au.
