Construction has begun to connect 1900 premises to the fixed line network in Bega, and those premises should be ready to connect to a service in June.
Likewise in in Bermagui, where construction is underway to connect 700 premises to the fixed line network, and 2800 premises in parts of Merimbula, Berrambool, Mirador and Tura Beach.
Another 3000 premises in parts of Merimbula, Pambula, Pambula Beach and South Pambula are expected to be able to order a service over the NBN broadband access network in January 2019.
Just last month 1931 premises in Eden were connected, with residents and businesses there now able to order a service.
Now that some people can connect, and others prepare to connect many residents and business owners have numerous questions.
To help answer those questions, the NBN is conducting a number of community sessions in the Bega Valley Shire over the coming weeks.
Local representatives will be on location to speak with members of the community about the rollout of the NBN broadband access network in the region and provide information about what residents and businesses should consider before they order a service from a phone or internet provider.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to get a real-life experience of the benefits of the NBN SkyMuster satellite service via the Sky Muster truck. The custom-made vehicle carries a portable satellite antenna that allows visitors to get hands-on with services over the network via a Wi-Fi hotspot powered by the SkyMuster service.
NBN local manager Amber Dornbusch said the community information sessions are part of the NBN’s commitment to improving customer experience for regional and remote Australia.
“The rollout of the NBN access network is one of the biggest transformations to Australia’s telecommunications industry to ever occur – it represents significant change for consumers and businesses as they make the move to the new network.
“We have been listening to the community’s feedback and are committed to providing answers to the questions Bega Valley Shire residents want to know about the NBN access network and the factors which influence the speed of their internet service.
“We encourage members of the community to attend and ask any questions they may have.
“If people would like to know when they can connect; I encourage them to visit the NBN website and put their address into our address checker.”
