Animals often seek moisture and graze by the roadside which places them in danger of being hit by passing vehicles.
Wildlife Rescue South Coast is a small group of volunteers who are urging travellers to take extra care on the road this busy holiday period.
Don’t presume animals will move out of your way – kangaroos and wallabies are very unpredictable.
Slow down when driving at night, wombats have extremely poor eyesight and cannot see approaching vehicles until almost on top of them.
If you see injured or dead wildlife, or if you unfortunately hit one, please stop.
If the animal has been killed, check pouches for babies and call Wildlife Rescue Far South Coast on 0417 238 921.
The group of Volunteers cover the coast from Mogo to the Victorian border and are desperate for extra help to care for orphaned and injured wildlife.
If you would like to volunteer or offer your time with administration duties please contact 0417 238 921.
