Senior students from StageFlight Drama School will be presenting a one-hour comedy performance of Arlecchino and the City of Love at Twyford Hall, Merimbula on Sunday, October 22 at 2pm.
The lovable but cheeky servant Arlecchino and his companions will transport you back to 16th century Venice where there are cases of mistaken identity, lost and reunited love, travellers in disguise, silly plots, sassy maids and greedy old men.
Director Lis Shelley has been rehearsing the students over the past two terms in commedia dell'arte techniques, a form of masked theatre developed in Italy.
She said the students had taken to the play like ducks to water.
“I wasn't sure that they would enjoy such a historical piece, but they just love playing the lazzi (gags) that are part of the commedia tradition,” Ms Shelley said.
The show runs for an hour and is recommended for ages eight and up. Tickets are available at www.trybooking.com/SLYZ.
