At 9am one of our Pambula Rotary treasures, Libby Weir, joins Colin to discuss her upcoming trip to South Africa to support a community in the Valley of the 1000 Hills near Durban, Libby does this every year. Keith McColl, well known local tennis coach, raconteur and drovers cook drops in to talk about a very busy life. And at 11 local Historian Peter Lacey joins Colin on air to talk about his latest activities.
Tura Beach Probus
Some members of Probus Club of Tura Beach had an enjoyable morning visiting the wetlands of Panboola in the warm Autumn sunshine and learning about the interesting history of the Pambula area last Friday.
CWA
Ashley Hoye is the Pambula-Merimbula’s branch of the Country Women’s Association new junior member, and how proud we are of her. After joining last October she and her mother Sharon, have attended meetings where possible and helped with cooking for stalls and functions. They are going to Sydney at Easter to volunteer at the CWA Tea Rooms at the Royal Easter Show.
Ashley has competed in the Group Land Cookery and Handicraft competition, which covers nine branches from Batemans Bay to Eden, with her chocolate hazelnut friands, and won first prize. She will now cook these friands again to compete at the State CWA 95th Annual General Meeting to be held at the Mingara Club at Tumbi Umbi in May.
She is also a dab hand at card making and three of her cards have gone to State as well in the Handicraft section for Juniors.
Wolumla Red Cross
Wolumla Red Cross welcomed new member Kay Dowton at their March meeting, when their upcoming Easter raffle was organized, as well as discussion as the need for increased membership to keep the Wolumla Branch viable.
Wolumla members observed one minute silence in memory of their much valued member Maureen Cochrane who passed away recently, and members voted to donate to the annual Red Cross calling appeal which goes to general funds.
Red Cross has been supporting those who have suffered disasters such as bush fires and flooding in Australia, plus humanitarian causes overseas, and many families have benefited from the 460,000 Australian men and women who donate blood each year.
Wolumla Red Cross meetings are held bi-monthly at the Wolumla Hall, with enquiries for the May 8th meeting including afternoon tea, to President Carol on 041452235.
Mob celebrates 50th
Merimbula Cash mob will be having its 50th mobbing on Saturday, March 25. They meet at 9:30am outside Twyford Hall in the main street of Merimbula and everyone is welcome. The mob descends on one locally owned business and spends a minimum of $20 per person and then they all go for coffee afterwards. All welcome and loads of prizes are up for grabs including vouchers from Brief Affairs and the Body Tree Gallery.
Garden Club
The Merimbula and District Garden Club will hold its next meeting on Saturday, March 25th at the R.S.L. Club in Merimbula..
The Executive have been nominated to fill their roles until the Annual General Meeting in August. They will introduce themselves and members will be able to welcome them and offer their support..
We always welcome visitors and new members, so come and join us at 10:15am and get some goodies from the Trading Table, have some morning tea, and maybe win the raffle prize.
Sapphire Coast Orchid Club
The Sapphire Coast Orchid Club will be holding an orchid workshop on Saturday, March 25, at Les Tudberry’s place, at 73 Headland Drive, Tura Beach at 2pm.
Les’s main interest is cymbidiums, Dendros and Sarcs. Learn about Orchids and their care. Get some hands on experience handling orchids.
The afternoon is free, just bring a chair (or sit on a wall) and hat for comfort and if you have an orchid plant you would like to know more about, bring it along.

Sunday in Wyndham
Make a day of it in Wyndham this Sunday, March 26 at the welcoming Wyndham Village Market which is held in and surrounding the historic Wyndham Hall from 8.30am to 1pm. This friendly all weather market has been in operation for more than twenty six years and offers an impressive array of organic, locally grown and produced goods and items made with much love!
But there are more reasons to visit Wyndham this month as the market will be followed by the sounds of “Jingera Rock Music” at the picturesque Sports ground with the beautiful backdrop of Jingera Rock.
All musicians, stand up comedians, poets etc are welcome and encouraged to the “Open Mic” from 1pm to entertain the appreciative crowd into the evening.
So stock up on all your favorite goods and those that you just wouldn’t be without, including the very popular organic skin products, home baking, locally grown and produced goods, organic fruit and veggies, free range eggs, handmade gifts and cards, jams, preserves, beautiful knitted items, quality collectibles and pre-loved items at bargain prices.
There’ll be good food offered by the Wyndham P and C, music and great coffee to aid the social, friendly and relaxing atmosphere for which Wyndham is so well renowned.

Bimbimbie Auxiliary
The next monthly meeting of the Bimbimbie Retirement Village Auxiliary will be held on Monday, Arpil 3 in the Kathleen McIllraith Activity Centre at 1.30pm. New members are always welcome.
The Bimbimbie paper shed has been closed. Thank you to both newsagents for supplying us with papers and magazines for many years. A special thank you to Robbie Gorden, who came and collected the papers and magazines and delivered for recycling. The community was a great help to us. Over the years residents have given their time in sorting and preparation. Many thanks to David and Michael from Bimbimbie maintenance staff for the collection of papers each morning. Money raised was allocated to buying items for the Bimbimbie Hostel.
The Bimbimbie Op Shop continues to be open Tuesday-Friday 11am-3pm. The Craft group meets on Monday mornings at 9.30am in the Kathleen McIllraith Activity Centre, with craft items for sale on the day. Looking forward to seeing some new faces, all are welcome.
Parkinson Support
Podiatrist Paul Ledger was the guest speaker at the Bega Valley Parkinson Support Group meeting held on March 13 at the Bega Golf Club. Falls are a major problem with People living with Parkinson's and Paul covered this problem as well foot and nail care. The members were delighted with Paul’s presentation and all gained information from Paul’s talk.
April 11 is World Parkinson Day and the Support will be creating awareness of Parkinson through the media.
The next meeting will be held on April 13 at Bega Golf Club commencing at 10.30am.
Free tech training
Free computer and technology training at Tura Marrang Library and at Bega Library will help local residents become familiar with a wide range of technologies.
Bega Valley Shire Council programs and partnerships officer Scott Baker said that the sessions are easy-paced and fun with the emphasis on group learning.
The training covers a range of technology topics including Introduction to Computers, Basic Internet, Internet Tools and Tips, Email, Privacy and Cybersafety, Social Media, Online Shopping and Banking, Introduction to iPads and an Introduction to Android Tablets.
People can select a combination of sessions to suit their needs or attend the classes sequentially. Sessions run for two hours from 10.30am until 12.30pm. All classes have limited places.
