One of the event organisers David Oliver said he had been blown away by the response to the day, saying it “had grown 10-fold” since its launch.
“We’ve got more than 25 teams, it’s growing every year,” Mr Oliver said.
The group will also have a number of silent auctions, raffles and some competitions on the day with all proceeds from the event going to the children’s ward of the Bega Hospital.
“It would be great to get some stuff in there to make the stay for the kids a bit more comfortable,” Mr Oliver said.
He said any purchases would be left entirely up to management, as the day was just about recognising emergency services staff and supporting the kids.
“The first year it was won by the NSW Ambulance boys, so the Police and Fire Brigades will be looking to take it off them this year.”
There are a couple of teams who will be right in the hunt and are said to contain some classy golfers.
One such threat is a combined Bega-Tathra Police outfit, while organisers will also welcome teams from Cooma, Goulburn and north to Batemans Bay.
“There is a couple of gun teams, the local Fire Brigade squad also has some good players on the list.”
Teams will compete over 18-holes in a four-ball ambrose, with the winners walking away with bragging rights on the day.
Late entries are allowed with all serving or retired emergency services staff eligible to play.
Contact the Merimbula Police Office for details.
Mr Oliver said the hospital itself had also responded well to the day with three team entries including nursing staff for the day.
“It really has grown which is good and we’ve got a number of ideas on how to expand it for next year.”
Registrations and a putting challenge will open proceedings at 7.30am before an 8.30am shotgun start.
Play is only open to emergency services staff, but members of the public are welcome to join in for presentations and the raffles from about 2pm.
“A number of our sponsors will be there, we really do appreciate all the support we’ve been given, it’s overwhelming,” Mr Oliver said.
Former Canberra Raiders and St George Dragons front-rower Mick Weyman will be a guest speaker at the presentations.
Mr Oliver encouraged everyone to grab a few raffle tickets or bid on a silent auction as all money raised on the day will go directly to the children’s ward.
