The Bega Valley Regional Learning Centre opened its doors to the community on Monday, November 7, to celebrate the new life the building tenants and ongoing users have brought to the space, and provide members of the community with an opportunity to see what has been happening over the past months.

MC for the morning was Ian Campbell from About Regional.
“The Council has really seized upon an opportunity when it took over the old but new home of Auswide – a building that was created to serve this community, it’s in the DNA of the bricks and mortar, which really made the community ownership of this building possible,” Mr Campbell said.
Aunty Colleen Dixon made the welcome to country and Mayor Kristy McBain introduced some figures on the usage of the building so far this year.
Included in the long list of use were: 66 participants in training programs for career skills including caring industries, hairdressing, business, tourism and children’s services; 86 people trained in first aid; 1111 hours of accredited training; 105 participants in workshops specifically oriented to small business and 26 days of programs for people living with disability.
The Open Day included a Services Expo where building tenants and ongoing users hosted information tables. Thirteen services and registered training organisations participated including Uniting (NDIS), Mission Providence, Sapphire Coast Tenancy Scheme, Hammond Care, Tulgeen, South Coast Careers College, College of Transformation, Education and Training, University of Wollongong, TAFE Illawarra, Sapphire Coast Business Network, Nullabor Consulting, Fusion Training Services and Appy Connections.
Attendees visited the new Co-work space in the building, where entrepreneurs and sole traders can ‘rent a desk’ in a modern, professional office with use of meeting and interview rooms.
Refreshments and entertainment were expertly organised by TAFE Illawarra Event Coordination training participants Jess, Holly, Alicia, Jordan and Penny with oversight by Deidre Jory of TAFE Illawarra.
