Mr Dunnage said there had been “minimal damage because staff followed procedures and contained the fire but needed the fire brigade to assist in putting out the fire completely”.
“From our initial investigations it seems that the thermostat on the fryer may have failed causing the oil to continue to be heated to flashpoint,” he said.
Mr Dunnage was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor burns and was full of praise for everyone who helped them return to normal trading on Tuesday.
“Everything was clean so there was nothing to catch alight. We had just a few scorch marks to show on the stainless steel splashback.”
