The Sapphire Speedway is seeking nominations for the first of two demolition derbies.
Event organiser Dave Collins said the club was offering up a $500 prize for the winner of each event, but also a $1000 bonus prize for the overall winner under a new point-score system.
The first derby will be held next month as part of a full race meet and drivers who compete in both events will be eligible for the bonus.
“It means if you win both, you’ll be walking away with a cool $2000,” Mr Collins said.
“But you must compete in both to be eligible for the point-score bonus.”
The club has welcomed some early entries, but Mr Collins hoped to welcome some new drivers to take part this year as well.
“We’re throwing down the guantlet and we’re looking for plenty of entries,” he said.
The competition uses “Bega Show” rules and will be held on a designated area of the speedway.
He is offering up his services as a welder to any new drivers interested in taking up the challenge.
“You get some interest, but some people don’t have the time or don’t know how to weld, if you need any advice or a bit of help I am willing to offer that,” he said.
“I am happy to go and do a bit of welding and help people out.”
Drivers just need to be over 16 to be eligible for day licences, but entries from both men and women are welcomed.
“It’s just great fun and some good old fashioned car-smashing action,” Mr Collins said.
“The derby will be a great spectacle for race fans, but we’ll also have a full array of racing, including divisions that don’t usually appear at Sapphire Speedway.”
Mr Collins is serving as the event co-ordinator, but is also looking forward to entering his own car and competing against the field.
There will be a minimum 10-car field competing on the night, but extra entries would see the “arena” expanded.
The derby will partner up with the second meet to be held in May next year in the hopes of building destruction derbies as a regular fixture on the Speedway calendar.
Full rule and restriction information is available from Mr Collins with registrations to close on October 15.

The club will have a full canteen and amenities available with the event to run on October 22.
Race times and class details will be printed closer to the event date.
