Hopefully the new councillors will honour that claim or position when they elect a new mayor.
The community made it quite clear that Tony Allen was the outstanding candidate.
His overwhelming primary vote clearly implies that a great number of the voters were satisfied with his experience and his attention to the responsibilities of the role of councillor. This is not the first time for such a result. He has attracted considerably more votes than other candidates in the last couple of elections.
The previous councillors overlooked listening to the community with the election of two mayors during its term. Interestingly, the electorate seems to have felt the same way with its rejection of the former mayors.
At the risk of stating the obvious, gender has nought to do with the matter.
Lets hope a decision based on fairness and honour will eventuate.

Smoking Can Harm Headline
I consider the headline Smoking Can Harm in relation to one of my employees getting bashed by two thugs a bit trite.
I sat in that courtroom in disbelief as the magistrate gave those two gutless thugs, Kramme and Richmond, a suspended 12 months gaol sentence and a $1000 fine each.
They couldn't remember what they'd done but could conveniently remember where they'd been.
My employee sustained a fractured eye socket three busted ribs and a collapsed lung among other things.
The cost of these thugs' attack in police time, specialists bills, hospital and ambulance costs etc is in excess of $60,000.
There is a One Punch attack law. What about about a 20 kick in the head and body whilst on the ground law?
You see the system works so that if they plead guilty on the charges, they get off lightly, the court lists empty and the prosecutor and defence and the magistrate can all close that file.
Why didn't the magistrate get to hear the impact on my guard when sentencing these mongrel attack from behind grubs?
I think you get the picture as to why I consider your headline a bit trite.
I may have written it "Gutless thugs get off lightly for drunken attack on security guard."
Is it any wonder when sentences like that are meted out that the public consider the judiciary system and all who ride in it totally out of touch.

Living with dementia
During Dementia Awareness Month, which runs throughout September, Alzheimer’s Australia is calling for greater awareness and understanding of dementia so people living with the condition feel less isolated and alone.
There are more than 353,000 Australians with dementia and an estimated 1.2 million people involved in the care of someone with dementia. In the Bega electorate there are an estimated 1,650 people living with dementia. That figure is projected to increase to about 3,550 by 2050.
A survey just released by Alzheimer’s Australia has found that people with dementia are almost twice as likely to have high rates of loneliness, and people with dementia and carers are significantly more lonely than the general population.
We hear repeatedly that when someone is diagnosed with dementia, friendships and some family relationships suddenly disappear because people simply don’t know how to interact with their friend or loved one with dementia.
Treating people with the same respect, kindness, inclusiveness and thoughtfulness you always have is what makes a difference to them.
They are still the same person they were before the diagnosis. They just may need a little bit more time, understanding and support.
I encourage your readers to find out more by going to www.fightdementia.org.au.

Thank you from Legacy
On behalf of Far South Coast Legacy and our 119 war widows living between Tura Beach and Eden, I would like to sincerely thank the community for their generous support in response to our recent Legacy Week fundraising appeal.
I would also like to thank the various businesses and clubs for permitting the sale of Legacy badges and other Legacy merchandise from their premises. A special thank you goes to all our volunteers who helped in so many ways.
All funds donated by the community are wholly dedicated to providing care and support of local war widows.
Were it not for the continuing support of the community our job would indeed be most difficult.
Thank you everyone.
