Nethercote seasonal produce market celebrated its 30th market on Saturday, July 23 with bunting, cake and plenty of local produce.
Market organiser, Karen Lott’s daughter, Ellen Soroka, was home from university in Sweden, where she is studying physics and made a spectacular celebration cake. Helped by mum and two of the stall holders who had been at the market since the start, Beth Deacon and Una Anderson, Ellen cut the cake.
In the kitchen, Amanda Stroud gave a cooking demonstration of pastie making, an ideal choice for the chilly winter morning. Amanda showed that pasties don’t have to be just meat and vegies with a delicious alternative containing chorizo, pumpkin, fetta and mozzarella.
Among the stallholders, first timer, Cici Legoe, from Candelo’s Wheatley Lane Bakery, was delighted. Long before the market had finished she had just one loaf remaining.
In the courtyard, the Paul Dion Trio kept everyone’s feet tapping as shoppers stopped to listen, enjoy coffee and some of the produce on offer.
Nethercote has four seasonal markets every year offering produce from local providores. The next market is October 22.
