Soccer fans were treated to some high quality football when the classic rivalry between Merimbula and Pambula played out over the weekend.
The two senior men’s games provided hard-fought and close results in frosty, but fine conditions at Penguin Park, Pambula on Sunday.
The reserve grade match was the pick of the day with a well played 2-2 result with some excellent play through the midfield and defensive lines at both ends.
In the first grade contest, the Grasshoppers were in for the shock upset of the season, knocking over the ladder-leading Penguins in the dying stages.
The Penguins were leading early 1-0 in the first half, but the Grasshoppers continued to fight back with immense speed.
The Grasshoppers levelled the score before sneaking in a late goal to secure a win over the competition front-runners.
Games are scattered this weekend with play in Merimbula, Pambula, Bega and Tathra.
