Held in May each year, over 4000 senior high school students from south-east NSW have benefited from the RYDA Program.
Students from Jindabyne, Cooma and Bombala will attend the three-day Bega program starting Tuesday, May 10.
Coordinated by local Rotary Clubs, Road Safety Education is a national not for profit organisation committed to reducing road trauma by educating young people in high school through its youth safety awareness program RYDA.
RYDA targets 16-18 year old high school students when they are starting to drive or ride in vehicles driven by their friends.
The RYDA program is a community based initiative coordinated through local Rotary Clubs to help make our roads safer, with the generous support from corporate sponsors including BOC, Toyota Australia and BOSCH, Bega Valley Motors and Coast Hire.
“One of the great aspects about RYDA is that you don't have to live in a major city to have access to it,” said Eric Johnston, long time Rotary volunteer with the program.
“The support of Rotary Clubs means that this award winning program can be run in regional communities, by local road safety and education professionals, including the police.
“To date, more than 440,000 students have completed the RYDA program.
“RYDA is essential road safety education for young drivers and their passengers.
“It is not a driving course but a series of practical and powerful workshops for high school students aged between 16 and 18.
“The focus is on attitude and awareness – empowering young people to make good choices.” Mr Johnston said.
