Wheelchair bound residents of the Sapphire Coast can now enjoy all the fun of a day at the beach thanks to the recent installation of a wheelchair friendly access ramp at Pambula Beach.
The 68 metre long ramp allows easy access across the sand all the way to the high water mark.
Built from recycled plastic waste, this is the first installation of a new modular ramp system developed by Australian company Replas. Local company VIROtech worked alongside Replas and Council staff to install the ramp last week.
VIROtech manager Grant Webster said the reaction from locals was overwhelmingly positive.
“We’ve had several people comment on the project. Some had wheelchair bound relatives and others could foresee the day when they themselves may find the access useful. We even had a woman in wheelchair try it out before we finished the installation.”
The project was made possible through NSW grants offered to Surf Life Saving NSW, and support from BVSC and Pambula SLSC.
