The Bega Valley Shire has once again demonstrated its generosity in supporting a local cause with Bega Valley Can Assist the most recent beneficiary.
More than $10,000 was raised at a lunch and fundraiser at Oaklands Events Centre on Sunday, February 28.
Around 180 people gathered at Oaklands to enjoy a two course meal, a period costume fashion parade and a monster auction with prizes donated by local businesses.
One of the event organisers Dot Holmes praised everyone for their generosity.
“This valley is very fortunate to have such a dedicated band of volunteers,” Ms Holmes said.
“All the money raised goes to those suffering from cancer and to help their families and it stays in the community.”
In February alone Bega Valley Can Assist gave more than $6,000 to cancer patients across the Bega Valley.
Assistance is given for a range of expenses including pharmacy, travel and accommodation costs, chemotherapy tests and household bills.
In 2015, Bega Valley Can Assist gave back $60,000 into the community.
