On Thursday, August 20 my wife and I witnessed, while having a meal at a local restaurant, children playing with a tricycle up and down the footpath of Merimbula Drive, Merimbula at 7.30pm.

They continually crossed from one side of this busy, dark road to the other between the Post Office and the Town Centre Motel on the other side of the road. These kids were between about three and six years old and were dressed in dark clothing.
Why were these kids out at 7.30 at night? Why weren’t they under supervision?
In this situation it was so easy for a vehicle to hit these kids, causing unknown injuries/death with the driver having to explain so much and live with the problem for the rest of his/her life. Vehicles come around Hylands Corner sometimes at speed and it would not be expecting kids to be playing on the road at that time of the night.
We should never take abduction of kids as “it won’t happen here” attitude. If a person in that, shall we call it mental state, was to witness unsupervised children then it would be all over in seconds and these harmless kids may never be seen again.
I am not attempting to portray a ghastly image of what might be, but please parents realise these sort of things can happen in our neighbourhood and treasure your children.
