The last time the two clubs met was an Anzac weekend draw, but this game will be in honour of the women (and men) who have suffered from breast cancer.
The day will be a chance to raise much needed funds for research and treatment of breast cancer.
Thanks to the support of business in Pambula, Eden and Merimbula over $500 has already been raised for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
Organisers said it won’t just be a regular round of Aussie rules, but are inviting women from across the Bega Valley to attend the day for a special afternoon tea.
The Panthers will don special one-off jumpers designed for the day.
A Pambula club spokesman said the seniors players had approached the club with the idea of giving back to the community.
The idea was born to support both the NBCF and BCNA.
In the coming year it’s expected 15,600 women and 145 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Similar events last year raised $450,000 for the BCNA and the two clubs are hoping to help raise over $600,000 this year for the cause.
Organisers said there will be a full draw of games on Saturday including under 11s from 9.30am.
Under 13s, under 16s and development grade will also play before the headline seniors match at 2.10pm.
To help raise funds there will be a small $5 gate fee for entry on Saturday with all proceeds going directly to the charity organisations.
Along with entry you also get a ticket in the raffle to win a fully signed Greater Western Sydney jersey, kindly donated by GWS and NSW/ACT AFL.
Both the Panthers and Diggers will run sports person evenings later in the year with proceeds from those nights to be donated to the charities as well.
The two clubs are hoping to make as large a donation as possible and are urging everyone to head along, show their support and cheer on the teams.
