To oppose the establishment of a kitchen to feed the homeless, lonely, those with a mental illness and those on low incomes as being a danger to school children is overkill.
Children need a good education and to be shown by example empathy and kindness to other members of their community. They need to learn to think independently and to be discerning.
Volunteers are prepared to give up their time to cook and serve a meal to those who are less fortunate than others.
What a wonderful opportunity for school children to participate by serving meals and talking with the guests and learning about the different lives we all have. When we look at others lives with empathy, more good things can be achieved.
To break down the stigma associated with mental illness and homelessness we all need to show some understanding, tolerance and kindness. It really takes no effort and the more you practice, the easier it becomes.
Please take notice and support Pearls Place in Merimbula. It will be a place of good food, a warm welcome, caring company and a place where people can again begin to shine like a pearl.
And the more you help, the more you shine.
