Pambula shoppers will soon have some extra space for parking with the moving of a bus zone to an area behind the shops. The move will result in about six extra spaces on Quondola Street where the current bus zone is located.
Council’s group manager of Infrastructure Waste and Water, Wayne Sartori said some of the new parking spaces will be conveniently close to the town’s Post Office, making it easier for people to access the service and nearby shops.
“Moving the bus zone to the car park off Bennett Lane will ease some of the demand for parking in Quondola Street,” he said.
“The move is being co-ordinated with bus operators who need to inform their passengers of the new pick up and drop off point through the publication of new timetables.
“This means that Pambula is currently in a short transition period where bus zones exist in Quondola Street and the car par off Bennett Lane. The Quondola Street bus zone signs will be removed on Tuesday 1 July, and the new zone off Bennett Lane will then be the only one in town.
“We are looking at options for further increasing parking on Quondola Street which may involve 45° parking, and the community will be informed of any plans.”
General manager, Leanne Barnes said a number of people had parked their cars unknowingly in the new bus zone and infringement notices were prematurely given.
“It’s unfortunate that prior to this notification a number of infringement notices were issued to people who parked their vehicles in the new bus zone. These notices are being withdrawn and no fines will be issued.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and distress this may have caused, and we recognise that the local community should have been better informed of the changes,” Ms Barnes said.
