The Haimona family was holidaying with friends when the five-year-old daughter of their friends “came down with a nasty rash”. By 9.30pm that evening, everyone was getting concerned and Amanda and her friend took the young girl to Pambula hospital.
Amanada said that as it was night they didn’t want to be driving for too long but were concerned about the health of the five-year-old.
“The doctor at Pambula was fabulous. An ambulance was organised and she was taken to Bega hospital and spent two nights there before being discharged,” Amanda said.
The following week, Amanda’s son, Ruben was playing on his scooter when he had a fall. When Ruben’s foot continued to hurt Amanda once again decided to turn to Pambula hospital for help.
“It wasn’t something that I would call an ambulance for but it was concerning,” she said. “In fact when we arrived at the hospital it was the same doctor who had seen my friend’s little girl. He called for an X ray and it was discovered that Ruben had broken his foot in two places. It was lovely to see the same doctor and he was very, very professional and thorough and couldn’t have done more,” Amanda said.
“I think that it’s vital this hospital stays. I’ve noticed you’re getting more families in the area and of course there is always the ageing population who need the hospital. It’s very important to keep this hospital. I see it getting busier and busier,” Amanda added.
